Happy Mother’s Day

Today is my first Mother’s Day as a mother and my second one without my own mother.

Yesterday, we visited my mom at the memorial park. It was a bittersweet moment: I was happy to finally be able to take my child to visit her and introduce him to her and her memory, but sad that my mother was not, and will never be, physically present to meet or see her grandchild. I truly believe though that she is watching over us with all of her blessings.

As I always do when I go see her, I brought her a small Kuan Yin statue and some tarot cards that felt befitting of the occasion: The Star card from the Spirit Keeper’s Tarot because it is of Kuan Yin (and the larger print with the Great Compassion Mantra is displayed in my home altar to her); the Strength card from Sakura Spring Tarot (because it is symbolic of my mom meeting her grandchild, born this year, in the year of the Tiger); and the Queen of Pentacles from the Pastel Kitty Tarot (because my mom loved Hello Kitty and the Queen of Pentacles card is a card that always reminds me of her).

These always go atop of a beautiful leafy green tray by Sparkle Divine Creations because my mom loved plants and greenery. Those succulents in the vase are plant cuttings from her garden that my dad has placed there. Those roses are placed there fresh when we visit.

Below is a picture of my card draws for today: The World, Three of Cups, and Mountain (Presence). I’m reading this to mean that, today, I am feeling complete on my first Mother’s Day with our newfound family of three and that I am grateful to be in this present moment.

I’m using Shadowscapes, Botan Tarot, and Mother’s Wisdom Deck because all three of these decks remind me of my mom. Shadowscapes, because it was my first deck, the one that found me two days before my mom’s stage 4 cancer diagnosis, and the one who comforted me during those first really difficult weeks. Botan Tarot, because it was the first deck that I got after my mom’s passing, the one that reinvigorated my love for tarot, and the one that felt like my mom’s final birthday gift to me with peaches, blossoms, and stories interwoven throughout. And finally, the Mother’s Wisdom Deck, because it was the deck that I sought out after my mom’s passing to dispense the wisdom I so craved from missing my mom.

Happy Mother’s Day.

Hello tarot community! I was inspired by @benjolivet and will also be donating my copy of the #TyldwickTarot and will be auctioning it off right here on Instagram. All proceeds from the auction will be split 50/50 and donated to @colorofchange and @thelovelandfoundation ….. As many of you know the Tyldwick Tarot is an OOP deck with quite a cult following. The creator, Neil Lowell, sadly passed away a few years ago, and after the deck sold out, was not reprinted again. I purchased this copy from Neil's brother last spring and paid over $100 for it. This copy is in great condition, but you can see where some of the gold gilding has chipped off a little (second pic). The deck comes in a tuck box, but I have stored it in this beautiful tarot wrap made by @moonlit_faye which will be included. The magnifying glass will also be included, so you can check out all the fun hidden details that this deck holds. ….. Bidding will begin at $120. Bid by commenting in this post only. You can bid in increments of at least $1. When you bid, please tag the person you outbid before you. The auction will end on Sunday, June 28th at 12:00pm noon PST. Priority shipping is included. US only. I will screenshot donations. ….. #tarot #tarotcard #tarotcards #tarotdeck #tarotdecks #tarotcommunity #taroteverydamnday #tarotreadersofinstagram #tarotspread #tarotforsale #tarotdeckforsale #tarotdecksforsale #tarotswap #tarottrade

IG Giveaway: Divine Doors Oracle

I’m giving away a used copy of the Divine Doors Oracle here. It’s such a gorgeous little deck full of photos of beautiful doors, doorways, and gateways, which I really do love, but I don’t resonate with the messages on the back and don’t use it much as a result! There are 40 cards in this mini deck.

As with all of my previous giveaways, I’m going to let the deck decide where it wants to go, BUT instead of using the deck itself (since people won’t know what cards are possible), I’ll be shuffling and drawing one card from the Tyldwick Tarot at 6:00 PM PDT SUNDAY, July 14th, so as long as your entry is in by then, it will count. I’ll keep drawing one card until there is a winner. I will take a picture of the card and post and DM the winner on Instagram.

I’m only accepting entries on Instagram, so if you’re interested, head on over there! Giveaway is for US residents only. Good luck!

IG Giveaway: Wander Light Tarot

I’m giving away a used copy of the Wander Light Tarot here.

As with all of my previous giveaways, I’m going to let the deck decide where it wants to go. I’ll be shuffling and drawing one card on SUNDAY, July 7th at 6:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time, so as long as your entry is in by then, it will count! I’ll keep drawing one card until there is a winner, and I’ll take a picture of the card and post and DM the winner on Instagram.

I’m only accepting entries on Instagram, so if you’re interested, head on over there! Giveaway is for US residents only.

The Waiting Game

I am NOT good at the waiting game, which is when you have ordered decks not from Amazon but are accustomed to shipping times a la Amazon (same-day or next-day, but at most, two days), such as internationally or through Etsy or Kickstarter, and god forbid, there is no specific timeline or there is no tracking, and all you can do is WAIT everyday and check your mailbox diligently.

I am currently playing the waiting game with two decks I recently ordered: The Slow Tarot and the Dark Mansion Tarot.

The Slow Tarot is a deck I came across on Kickstarter, and it is STUNNING. Each card image is an original oil painting by the incredibly talented Lacey Bryant. The campaign is organized by Modern Eden gallery in conjunction with Lacey. Modern Eden is located in San Francisco, so I will definitely be checking out the original paintings when the exhibit opens in late April. I am not generally drawn to contemporary decks, but the art here is just so incredibly beautiful, how could you not be drawn to it?

The art is already finished, and the regular updates indicate that the deck will likely ship out in April, so I’m eagerly anticipating its arrival in the next month.

Here’s the card back!

The Dark Mansion Tarot by Taroteca Studio first made its appearances in my Instagram feed late last year, and I was entranced. I kept putting off ordering it because it came from Poland, and I don’t generally purchase internationally unless through Ebay, and rarely even at that. This is the only deck, however, where FOMO has ever hit me, and boy did it hit me hard, so when I finished doing my taxes a few weeks ago, this is the first thing I ordered.

It already contains my favorite Sun card:

And I love this Hermit card!

I ordered the regular/standard edition, and here are the card backs. I think both versions are beautiful in their own way:

Based on what I have been reading about and hearing on social media, this deck takes a while to make its way to you in the states, so it looks like I’m in for a long wait, although it will be WORTH IT!

Tarot Bags

I’ve always been a proponent of spending money allocated for tarot on decks, rather than accessories, such as pouches, cloths, etc. (crystals don’t count!), but recently, I have been enamored with tarot bags on Etsy. I’ve been eyeing a few, and I fell in love with the patterns and prints offered by thebeeandthesnake. The bags are lined and are reasonably priced at $12 a pop for small bags. A lot of other bags I had been eyeing have been $20+.

Because I loved the prints so much and because Betsy, owner of thebeeandthesnake does refund overages for shipping, I went and purchased FOUR of her lovely pouches. I generally only house tarot decks in bags if they come in large or unwieldy boxes — namely, Llewellyn decks. All other decks are housed in their original boxes. The decks in pouches previously lived in primarily nondescript velour or velvet bags. I thought they deserved something a little more beautiful and something that reflected their personalities.

I got a pouch each specially to match Shadowscapes, the Mermaid Tarot, the Everyday Witch Tarot, and Tarot in Wonderland.

Betsy packaged the pouches beautifully:

And they came with an amazing blend of rose potpourri in a mini pouch plus a crystal. The potpourri smelled divine:

Look at how beautifully each pouch matches each deck! They are STUNNING:

I’m so in love with these that now my two remaining decks in pouches (Zombie Tarot and Dreaming Way Tarot) now need to be properly clothed in some of these bags! I will definitely be purchasing again!

Giveaways!

I’m giving away a used copy of the Ostara Tarot here and the Sasuraibito tarot/altar cloth here.

As with all of my previous giveaways, I’m going to let the Ostara tarot deck decide where it wants to go and ask the Moon Void Tarot where the tarot cloth wants to go. I’ll be shuffling and drawing one card on SUNDAY, March 24th at 5:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time for the Ostara Tarot and at 7:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time for the tarot cloth. I’ll keep drawing one card until there is a winner, and I’ll take a picture of the card and post and DM the winner on Instagram.

I’m only accepting entries on Instagram, so if you’re interested, head on over there. Giveaway is for US residents only since shipping internationally is prohibitively expensive.

Good luck!
